Remaining Questions about Caroline Charlotte

This is where I hope that the power of collaboration across the internet might be able to help me answer some of the remaining questions I have about Caroline.

Also, I'm really hoping that some of her publications survive somewhere, and that we will have the opportunity to read more of her work.

Here are the questions in no particular order.

  1. Where was she actually born?
  2. What/where was her baptism and who were her parents?
  3. If her father was British, why was he in Canada/America at the time of her birth?
  4. Who was the brother who also died, that she referred to?
  5. Who was the mystery cousin in Leicester who was supposed to come into property? The one who was coming from the West Indies and was connected to the name of 'Saunders' Was that a ruse, an excuse or a delusion?
  6. Where was she buried, and did anyone ever come forward to acknowledge a relationship to her?
  7. What were the circumstances of the chancery case that I can't make sense of?
  8. Did she have a son as she said, if so, who was he, and who was his father? What became of him? Did he ever go to sea in the merchant navy like she said?
  9. What ultimately happened to Richard Hurd Wetherell?
  10. Why and when did Caroline travel from Ireland to London? Was she still married as she suggested on her first workhouse admission, or was that a mistake? If she was married, why was Richard Hurd Wetherell no longer supporting her?
  11. Did she ever really receive any money from Robert Peel? Did Robert Peel really know her father? Did she ever send a letter to Lady Peel, perhaps the one in her boxes was a copy?
  12. Who was the mysterious 'Lady' that Mr Joseph Dare, the missionary, was talking about who had an interest in Caroline's case.
  13. Who was the Lady Combermere who supposedly committed suicide, that she referred to in her diaries. Who she mentions as having conversed with at the Royal Hospital Dublin? Who was her daughter Lady Downshire, and why did she have a poor opinion of her? Was Caroline a patient too at the time, or just a visitor? Where these ladies really who they claimed to be, or where they similarly unwell patients?
  14. Was she buried with the horse chestnut seed by her head, as she requested?
  15. Did she have any other children, other than the son that she mentioned?
  16. Do any more of her poems, art or writings survive?
